So, recently, I was searching for a lost GameCube controller I needed to play a multiplayer game with my sister and a friend of her. Since my brothers' gameroom was rearranged several times since we last used the GameCube, we had no idea where the spare controllers had ended. I had to search through the whole house to get it back.

But during the search, I managed to see where my brothers had stored our old Super Nintendo and its cartridges.

It brough back fond memories while I sorted them out. Zelda: A link to the past, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Illusion of Time (called Illusion of Gaia in the US, if I remember right), Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore,... My brothers were fonds of RPGs and plateform games, like Donkey Kong that they had borrowed to a friend.
As a child, I spend a lot of time watching them play while sitting onto the floor, wide-eyed. I couldn't touch the controllers, because they found me too young to play, but they let me stay and watch whatever they were doing (I almost never played the SNES because of it, but they later let me use the Super Game Boy to play Pokemon Blue on the TV :) ; eh, no matter what they said, they were interested in the game too!).
It's part of my fondest childhood memories. I'm not as much into gaming as I was when I was a young teen, but still, some of those games kept a very special place in my heart.

Among them, there were the three games they had to order and import from the US because they hadn't been released in Europe at the time: Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG and Final Fantasy III (well, VI, actually).

They were special, those games, first and foremost because, despite them being excellents games, we had some trouble with them, firstly because we had to use an adaptor to play them. Then there were bugs; we could only see the intro to Mario RPG, but the game froze afterward... if we even managed to start it.

The whole 'foreign language' thing didn't exactly help; back then, I didn't speak a word of english, and one of my brothers had to make an approximative translation aloud so I could really understand what was going on, if he was in a good mood and agreed to humor me. Which was often enough, thankfully.
But aside of those minors inconveniences... they were just epic!

Final Fantasy in particular struck me.  It was a very dark tale, come to think about it, but I was so entranced by the graphisms and the music it barely registered to me. I was hooked back then. Still am, in a way, though I must admit I prefer playing FF IX. Which doesn't mean much, because I never finished any FF game, ever. The one time I almost did, the game was erased due to a computer crash (I was playing with an emulator, due to the SNES getting old and my brothers spending time on the Playstation or the Nintendo 64 instead, so I didn't have access to the TV anyway).

But Final Fantasy VI was really something. Especially the last boss of the game. I remember being a little scared the first time I saw it: the monsters tower in three steps, with the epic music, before you even reach Kefka in his god-form... *shudders* 'Dancing Mad' is one wicked musical theme!
Thinking back, the irony was, even when they managed to beat Kefka, we couldn't see the ending of the game; the screen became dark just in the middle of their escape from the Tower, so we couldn't truly see how it ended. It was a big source of frustration for everyone. it wasn't until we got the ROM on emulator we could see it in full. *smiles*
It's no suprise to me my bros bought the rerelease on Playstation and GBA when it came out; it was one of their favorite too, and I think they actually consider it the best Final Fantasy they ever played.

Ah, Kefka... true, Sephiroth was better in term of charisma, but Kefka was... Well, he was Kefka. Very, very insane, with a laugh that never announced anything good. And besides, Sephiroth only tried to destroy the world; Kefka actually managed to, and his death meant the end of all the remaining magic in the World of Ruin. Talk about a screwed up, dangerous character!
*shakes her head*

In a way, I miss it, those moments in the game room. We were all pretty quiet and never bickered, we shared thoughts about the games, laughed and cheered the player or helped him while reading the solution in various magazines and guiding him through the hard passages.
It truly were happy years...

*nods* So much better than most I've seen later on.

Technically, I haven't played all of them. I mainly enjoyed the storylines and plots while someone else played ;)
That's the problem when there are several children and consoles in one home but only one TV to use said consoles XD
But I did end up testing most of them later on, though I never finished a single one.

The only game I've ever actually beat was KingdomHeart. XD I usually play for a really, really long time...and then lose interest. =X

Oh, KingdomeHeart! I really liked this one; the whole concept of Square heroes and Disney was just too much! I haven't seen much of the first, but the second was very good :)

Yeah, I easily lost interest too. Usually, I can only stay focused for two, three weeks, then I gradually lost interest and don't touch it again for months, if ever. And since I try to not play too much in one day, I'm progressing at a slow pace, so...
Because of that, so far, the only games I ever finished were the first Pokemon game, Harvest Moon on SNES and the first Professor Layton =X

Funnily enough, one of my brothers was of the opposite mindset; if he started a game, he didn't stop until he had managed to complete it to 100% or as close as possible.
He was very intense when it came to platform games :)

>_< My brother and my cousin are like that. Play something until they beat it, and beat it in the shortest time possible. They are crazy good. XD

Incidently, I also used to play Final Fantasy Online, and WoW...when it first came out. XD

Guys like that usually are XD
Final Fantasy Online... it was number XI, right? I never played or seen this one. Back then, I wasn't in MMORPG and neither were the rest of the siblings (then they discovered WoW...). I stopped paying attention to the series after the X.
So you were a WoW player? There's a couple of people who started playing right from the start in the Guild I'm in, they're often bemoaning the changes Blizzard made to the game XD
But personally, I like it that way. Though even I wasn't fond at first of all the changes they made with MoP...

Yeah, FFO was XI. It was actually a lot of fun socially, but too much of a level grind at a point. They didnt' have enough events IMO. And yes, I played WoW when it first opened. XD It was fun. Not sure I would enjoy it now though. I tried playing RIFT, and wasn't that fond of it. XD

I don't know... What the older players complain the most about is usually the changes made to dungeons and raids, often shortening them. WoW turned toward smaller, quicker instances and they don't especially like it.
Depending on what you liked in the game, you might still have fun. The pets' battles are a nice new touch, for example ;)
I don't see what RIFT is; what kind of game was it?

BTW, I've only one of your prompt left to write, the one about Rodimus/Soundwave; would you mind if I put it in the 'Wetnurse' verse?

Rift is sorta generig MMorg. I guess. A bit like Wow, just not as cool. XD The character view drove me crazy. X_X

=D That would be awesome. I love that verse.
