Okay, it's not so unusual this year; we had a snowy January month (and the snow lasted for at least three weeks due to very cold temperatures), after all. But we rarely get so much snow at once!
Honestly, it's going to be hard to set a foot outside today, or using a car. So far, we had 20cm of snow falling during the night. And it's still snowing right now, and from what the meteo said, it will last a good part of the day. Small snowflakes, true, but with a lot of wind, so we have snowdrifts and possibly some black ice on the roads.
And not just in our corner of the country. From what I've heard, a good part of Paris' public transports have been stopped.
My Dad tried to at least clear a path so he could at least go to the mailbox and the trash cans; said clear path is now partly covered by snow again (3cm at least, last time I've checked, not even one hour after he did so), and he renounced clearing the rest of the path so we could get a car out of the garage. The cars are now officially grounded for the day. And I seriously doubt the postmen will be out today, so going to the mailbox is kinda pointless.
My sister (who couldn't go to the university due to transport problems) even got an official notice stating that the whole university would be closed for the day. Haven't listened to the news bulletin yet, but I gather it goes the same way for most of the schools around here.
I'm part elated, part grimacing. Elated, because I so wanted to have a chance to make a snowman with my nephew; with any luck, we'll be able to tomorrow once the snowfalls stop. Grimacing, because most of the family, including me, got a cold, and I'm not sure we'll have enough medicines for everyone. Luckily, there is a pharmacy near home we could go to if there is a problem, but with that weather, I'm not sure it'll be open.
I should try to post some pictures of the snow later on...
