Project: cosplay
Jun. 5th, 2013 06:23 pmJapan Expo will be next month in Paris, from July 4-7. My sister and I went the last two years, and we intend to go this year two. Except, this year, we kinda want to go in costume. We had this project for long but decided against the last two times. However, we think it's time we finally try this year.
But what to wear?
For my sister, it's easy; she intends to buy a gothic lolita-styled dress she has been saving money for for months.
Me... I'm unsure.
Currently, I have two possibilities.
The first is to use a homemade Cinderella's Fairy Godmother costume.
Here're the photos:

I had it done for a costumed party threw by one of my cousins two years ago. It's pretty enough, I guess, and there's usually some Disney cosplay prowling around the stands. Last year, there even was a group in the official Cosplay Contest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D21ttCvzY88
A bit unusual, I think, but having already seen cosplays such as Jessica from Who framed Roger Rabbit? and Emily from Corpse Bride, it certainly wouldn't be the most out of place.
The downside, however, is that the Fairy Godmother costume was entirely made in lining. Although it's pretty and soft to the touch, it's also rather warm, so I don't know if it's the best thing to wear during a salon. And I need to be careful to not trip by walking on the hem of the skirt...
The second possibility would be to make a whole new costume. I was thinking about a White Mage costume from the Final Fantasy series, cut along the same lines as this one: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=298265
It doesn't seem to be overly complicated, so it could be done quickly enough. I could use cotton to make it, or something lighter if I can find, so it would be easier to wear than the Fairy Godmother dress... Or at least I hope so. Anyway, a White Mage costume would probably be more in sync with the event, and more discreet.
The problem is getting the fabric to make such a costume; there isn't many haberdasheries near my hometown, and the nearest one has closed down three years ago. That means going further away or ordering directly on Internet and hoping to get it fast.
So for now I hesitate a little. I need to speak with my sister and my mother about it...
