It was bound to happen.
Since the beginning of the week, we had several thunderstorms, with various intensity. Last night, we had one with a strong rain. It got me and my sister exchanging looks before we went to bad, 'cause we could hear it fall clearly and were a bit worried.
We were right to be.
We didn't check in the morning (not that it would have changed anything), but we just discovered early this afternoon that part of the basement was flooded. The part where my brother L is stocking his train models, among other things. The whole room is filled with cartons, boxes and trestle with his train stations and railways models.
The flood in itself isn't big, barely 5mm of water.
Unfortunately, it cover almost the whole room, and there're a lot of cartons we need to move before we can try to dry the place. Suffice to say, it isn't fun at all.
It's not the first time it happens in this part of the basement; for an unknown reason, perhaps because the ground couldn't absord it all, in case of strong or prolongated rains, one of the basement's wall let water filter through. It hadn't happened in years, though, and we weren't expecting the results to be so bad. My parents less than all (of course, they hadn't realized just how violent yesterday's rain was; they were already asleep when it started raining).
Going back to help now...
